This has the benefits of operating without the computer and therefore will not interfere with each other. The router will also have a firewall and have a SPI, Statefull Packet Inspection, which looks at the type of data that goes to and from the computer to the internet. We will take you through setting up your router to best effect.
Routers also allow many computers to share the same connection to the internet for no extra cost.
